Most of us greeted 2021 eagerly, hoping the Covid-19 pandemic would end and life would return to “normal.” Instead, we had another challenging year, with the desire of some to protect the young, old, and vulnerable seemingly in opposition to the desire of others to protect personal choice.
With that as the backdrop, life went on in Greene County. There were news events like an explosion at Landus Cooperative in Jefferson, a successful fundraising campaign by the Greene County Early Learning Center board to construct a new facility, the decision of the Jefferson city council to make up the move forward with building a new animal shelter, and the approval by more than 88 percent of voters to retain gaming in Greene County. The year was capped by a derecho that spawned three tornados Dec. 15.
It was all reported here on GreeneCountyNewsOnline, along with recaps of lively discussions of mask mandates and public restrooms for transgender pool patrons, and, of course, coverage of candidate forums in the November school and city elections.
